Cilgerran Castle
Cilgerran Castle perches on a crag above the River Teifi, its two great drum towers rising sheer from the cliff edge. First raised in the early 12th century and fought over by Welsh and Norman lords, it was rebuilt in stone by the Marshal earls of Pembroke in the 1200s. By the 18th century its romantic ruin and dramatic setting drew artists including J.M.W. Turner, and the views down the gorge remain its great draw.
- Twin drum towers
- Cliff above the Teifi gorge
- Painted by Turner
Best for castle-hunters who love a ruin with a dramatic riverside drop.
