Hafod Uchtryd
Hafod Uchtryd in Ceredigion is one of Wales's most romantic landscape gardens, carved out of a remote Cambrian mountain valley in the late 18th century by the eccentric squire Thomas Johnes. Waterfalls, gorges, and woodland walks thread through a landscape deliberately shaped to move and inspire the visitor, drawing on Picturesque ideals that were radical for their time. The estate fell into ruin and is now being carefully restored, lending it an atmosphere of beguiling wildness.
