Hawkshead and Claife
Hawkshead and Claife cover oak woodland and lake shore along the western side of Windermere, away from the busier eastern resorts. At Claife the ruins of a Georgian viewing station survive, where coloured glass once framed the lake for early picturesque tourists. Paths thread through the trees to quiet bays, jetties and the village of Hawkshead nearby.
