Hinton Ampner House
Hinton Ampner House in Hampshire is a refined country house of great understatement, rebuilt in the neoclassical taste by Ralph Dutton in the mid-twentieth century after fire destroyed most of the earlier building. Dutton was a collector of considerable discernment, and the house is filled with English and Continental furniture, ceramics, and paintings assembled with a quiet personal eye rather than institutional completeness. The garden is equally thoughtful โ a series of vistas and enclosures set into the chalk downland, with wide views south towards the South Downs.
- Refined neoclassical country house
- Fine personal art and furniture collection
- Chalk downland garden with South Downs views
Best for lovers of elegant interiors, personal collecting, and the understated pleasures of English country house taste.
