Patterson's Spade Mill
Patterson's Spade Mill at Templepatrick is the last spade mill still working in its original spot in the British Isles. Powered by a water turbine driving a thumping tilt hammer, its smiths forge traditional Irish spades just as the Patterson family has done since the 1700s. A guided visit takes you through the forge, the noise and the heat, and you can watch new spades being made and finished on site.
- Water-powered tilt hammer
- Hand-forged Irish spades
- Live forging demonstrations
Best for families and the curious who love seeing a working craft up close.
