Cissbury Ring
Cissbury Ring is a massive Iron Age hillfort sprawling across a chalk summit on the South Downs above Worthing. Its great ramparts enclose ground that was already worked in Neolithic times, when miners sank shafts here to dig flint. The huge open hilltop is now flower-rich grassland alive with butterflies, and the views sweep right out to the sea on a clear day.
- Iron Age hillfort ramparts
- Neolithic flint mines
- Sea views from the summit
Best for big-sky walkers and anyone who likes prehistory underfoot.
