Ramsey Abbey Gatehouse
Ramsey Abbey Gatehouse is all that visibly remains of a once-great Benedictine abbey founded in the tenth century in the Cambridgeshire fens. The ornate late-medieval gatehouse, with its intricate stonework, stands as a haunting fragment of monastic grandeur — the rest lost to the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII.
- Haunting medieval gatehouse survivor
- Intricate late-gothic stonework
- Sole remnant of a great fen abbey
Best for those drawn to medieval fragments and the atmosphere of lost monasteries.
