Wray Castle
Wray Castle is a romantic Victorian Gothic castle set on the western shore of Windermere in the Lake District, surrounded by woods and offering wonderful views across the lake to the fells beyond. Built in the 1840s, it has a pleasingly theatrical, fairy-tale quality and is now freely explorable, with hands-on activities that make it a joy for younger visitors. A young Beatrix Potter holidayed here as a child, and the landscape clearly left its mark on her imagination.
