The Kymin
The Kymin rises 256 metres above Monmouth, where a dining club of local gentlemen built the white, castellated Round House in the 1790s as a banqueting retreat. Beside it stands the Naval Temple of 1800, honouring sixteen admirals and topped by a figure of Britannia; Nelson visited in 1802 and praised it. The summit, easily reached on foot, opens out across the Wye Valley with views said to take in ten counties.
